A few tried and tested examples that staff and leaders in schools may find useful in planning your curriculum monitoring. The whole school monitoring template would be more useful for primary/middle school settings.

A form that can be used for SENCo’s and leaders to monitor the achievement and progress of EHCP pupils. I have used this in schools as a way of pin pointing provision for these pupils, sharing key information with teachers and ensuring the pupil is getting the relevant holistic education they need. Feel free to use or adapt as necessary.

A document to use as an SLT to evidence your progress against the Ofsted criteria, highlight areas if strength, and areas for development. A good way to keep self evaluating is have the template as a working document that you update each term. Think about: Specific evidence (e.g. events, data highlights) instead of a narrative. A simple and editable action plan for school leaders to use and assess progress against, the Ofsted recommendations from the June 2021 report on sexual abuse.

Use this with your History, Geography and RE classes to help them remember key spelling, punctuation and grammar areas to look for in their work. Easy to remember in time for the exam or get them practicing in KS3 in readiness. Print them off and laminate them. Distribute after any extended writing task and give them just five minutes to use it to check their work. By the time the exam arrives they should remember some of the key areas to watch out for when they read through their answers.

An assembly that looks at the work of charities and the benefits of volunteering. There are some videos from ‘V’ that introduces pupils to their work.

An assembly about the dangers of fireworks and points to consider for children when watching and using them.

An assembly about prayer and how different beliefs practice it. I have taken the angle of discussing similarities and differences and introduced the idea of atheist prayer (a thunk). There is a link to a clip from a Christian discussing why prayer is important to them. Notes and knowledge are included in the notes section of the slides. This could also be used as a presentation in a lesson.

A mixed ability lesson with the main activity resource suitable for SEN children. The presentation has a clear objective an,d with the use of a textbook, has a creative task whereby pupils create a farm in the 1890s which shows some the changes made in agriculture since the 1750s. A really good way of getting the point across is get them to complete a similar farm design in 1750 using a textbook and then this 1890 one. Use a lesson and group work to pull out the main changes and then set up a debate around which change was the most significant.

A selection of revision activities (from the old spec), exercises and lessons to help you in the final build up to the exam. Easily adaptable for the new Edexcel spec. Includes: - An exploration of the exam paper questions - Group and individual revision topics - A pre-exam quiz to test knowledge

Though this is designed for History, it is adaptable for any KS4 and 5 subject. I found parents were really positive to have an A5 sheet to take away with key dates of the exams, links to revision websites/text and other information such as the specification.

An assembly (presentation) about remembering past wars and the military. I have focused on the effects of war on the mental health of the soldiers. It includes: - Notes on each slide: background to wars, the environment and working with other people - A link to a clip (not YouTube) on the mental health of soldiers (on the final note slide)

A two page form that can be used by staff to report suspected cases where a female under 18 has been subjected to, or is in danger of, FGM. The form has a clear and easy structure: - Details of student (all key information required for when it is reported to police) - Details of concern - Action taken - Follow up action (with guidance for staff) This is a coherent way to keep records of any reported cases in school.

An assembly that looks at punishment over time and relates this to our views now. A great way to get pupils to think about how we should view punishment.

A short assembly that considers how children move on through transition. Easily adaptable to your setting. Includes a reference to Tony Walsh’s ‘New Beginnings’. You may need to find the Youtube clip if the link gets updated.

A great way to get children thinking about some of the EEF research findings about teaching and learning. Includes references to collaborative learning and feedback.

An assembly that explores what compassion means, and uses ideas from the bible and modern life to provide a thoughtful session for pupils to think more deeply.

An assembly that looks at the ingredients that make up ambition. It also goes through how often to reach your ambitious goals you will get setbacks. I use the story of Jamie Vardy to illustrate this. I have included some notes on the PP slides to help you deliver it and explore the concepts with your pupils.

An assembly that explores the idea of being the first humans to set up a colony on Mars. It covers what NASA is doing to prepare (a short clip on a website is included) and looks at the preparation of astronauts and potential living conditions on the red planet. References to the Mars One programme is also included. Would suit all ages as can be adapted and requires interaction with the children in the audience through questioning.
